Abstract:
Considered as a driving force of scientific progress, since ancient times until now, scientific methodology has always been the focus of the thinkers. In the ancient books the methodology of each book is mentioned as one of the “eight introductory subjects” at the beginning of that book; This was so, because the methodology of any science is actually the specific logic of that science, and the specific logic is one of the branches of general logic of which all sciences follow. Contemporary thinkers have also paid very serious attention to methodological issues in various sciences, including economics. One of the methodological theories that has attracted the attention of many researchers is the research program method proposed by the Hungarian philosopher of science named Imre Lakatos. Using a descriptive-analytical method, investigating the feasibility of using Lakatos's theory in Islamic economic research, this study came to the conclusion that there are important structural similarities between methodology of Islamic economics and Lakatosian methodology: fundamentalism, having a resistant core (irrefutability of central propositions), pluralism and so on. These forementioned similarities can help Islamic economists in applying the Lakatosian method in Islamic economic research and studies.
